This Hasn't Been Your Typical Amusement Park Ride

After Walt Disney (DIS) reported its quarterly results on Wednesday after the close, its next ride began down and it was costly. The broadcasting and entertainment ($DJUSBC) giant revealed it had missed its profit estimate by a wide margin, $.37 vs. $.51 and Wall Street wasn't happy. The problem here with DIS is two-fold. First, it's underperforming vs. its S&P 500 peers, which has been evident in its price-relative downtrend. But the second is that its industry peers are seeing BILLIONS rotate out. So the group is weak and DIS isn't strong enough right now to battle through it:

There could be a silver lining here, but I'm stretching to find it. Recently, and even with yesterday's earnings debacle, DIS is seeing its AD line rise, which suggests that professionals may be starting to accumulate it on this weakness. DIS has also been holding onto its gap support range from December 2020. Of course, hanging by a thread to long-term support during a year in which the S&P 500 has rocketed to new all-time highs is little consolation. But perhaps it's a start.
